About The Website
Welcome to the Modesto Bonsai Club! We are dedicated to fostering the appreciation and understanding of bonsai and suiseki, an ancient art form that combines horticulture and artistic design.
Our club provides a platform for enthusiasts at all levels to share knowledge, participate in workshops, and exhibit their trees. Join us to deepen your skills, meet fellow bonsai lovers, and enjoy the serenity and beauty of these living art forms.
Modesto Bonsai Club
The Modesto Bonsai Club began almost 50 years ago when a few bonsai enthusiasts got together at one of their homes to work on their trees and engage in discussion. Since that time, our membership has grown and shrunk as members passed or moved away and new members joined. We currently have just under 30 members.

Sam Adina is our sensei or instructor. He is nationally and now internationally recognized as a bonsai expert.

Our club is a member of the Golden State Bonsai Federation - GSBF.

Please bring any trees that need attention. This is a prime time to work on Black Pines. It’s also time to prune maples now before getting colder and bleed when cut so bring them too. Make sure you have a table cover for your work area along with tools and anything else you need to work on your tree. This will be another potluck so bring a food or drink item and let's share and enjoy ourselves!

REMINDER: This will be a members sale event. Cash or check only to and by members only. Any Bonsai related item, trees, pots, suiseki, books, tools, etc. In addition, we have decided to present a very unusual program. We normally plant our Bonsai trees in various sizes, colors, and shapes of pots. However a few do rock plantings and some plant their forests and trees on slabs. This month we are going to show you how to make a slab. All you have to do is show up and watch the demonstration. We will then help you create a slab for yourself for planting at a later time. We did this at the Sacramento Bonsai Club and we had a great time.

July was unusually hot so I hope you and your Bonsai trees are surviving. It looks like August isn't going to be any better. Keep your trees out of the direct sun and in morning filered sun light. You may have to water them twice a day. Sam says to bring any tree you would like advice on. See you at our regular location and regular time. And remember, the room IS airconditioned ;-)
